Spotted a relatively plain old AWD today. Was disinterested, until I saw the badge on the side of it:
What? ENHANCE!
What? It’s actually called a Mysterious Utility .
So I Googled it, half expecting it to be some aftermarket thing like when you see a Hyundai Excel with a Sportz sticker on the side. Nope, the Isuzu Mysterious Utility is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
And then I found this:
And I lost it. The Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard is a real car and look how large and numerous the badges are there are literally 4 of them in this image.
(Sidenode: the Hyundai Excel Sportz !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I can’t believe it. This is a big day for me)
Ignoring the incredible fact that this thing exists, the fact that I actually saw one is a bit of a puzzle in itself. As far as I know these cars were sold in Australia as Holden Fronteras. So I had a look to see if this is a freak, or if there are any more for sale. And that’s when I stumbled upon the greatest discovery of them all:
The Mysterious Utility is still in production. They morphed a bit, eventually becoming the Holden Rodeo pickup (also sold as an Isuzu D-MAX), but they currently exist in the Australian market as an SUV version of this - !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I knew the MU-X had gone on sale recently, but I had no idea that’s what the name meant and I feel I’ve now come full circle and that I’ve uncovered an incredible secret that Isuzu have buried deep in the Internets. Look how proud they are of it!
It even keeps the weird flush rear window!
A sad end to this story: I found no more of the original MUs for sale in Australia on Carsales - the one I saw may be quite rare as one of few non-Holden models in the country, I wish I’d gotten a picture.

THIS!
This would be very popular RIGHT NOW in the U.S. if it was sold here.

The 2-door was sold here in the US as the Isuzu Amigo (later changed to Rodeo Sport) and the 4-door was the Isuzu Rodeo (and also the Honda Passport). There are lots of those still crawling around here. There’s several in my condo complex.

I have nothing to contribute other than that I saw an Isuzu Rodeo and a Lamborghini Diablo today. The Rodeo was better.

I know Chevy sells it as the Trailblazer in South America, I wonder if they are considering it.

I’m not an SUV guy, but a reasonably-sized, off-road capable four-door might go over here.

I want an Amigo so bad. All the clean and cheap ones near me are 2wd though. The search continues though.

I just learned many things. The most important being: we need that design team naming vehicles again. Who wouldn't want a Mysterious Utility Wizard?!?

Come to Colorado, there are plenty still out here. Hell, we even still have Daihatsu Rockys!

Ooh. A Rocky or Raider would be awesome! Once I have the new house settled I’ll start prowling CL again.

I don’t think GM is smart enough to know better

Americans need a little mystery in their lives.

Yes! YES! I read that thing where the guy responsible for Cadillac’s new naming scheme tried to defend himself. And I don’t care. This is better. This is
awesome

I wish to know more about the Diablo :(

But do any have the mysterious badge? Because without that touch of genius they’re just an old rugged 4WD.
Our Holden ones got some awesome 80s Sport stickering, but not quite the same.

Black VT, was at a mostly mediocre car show I went to. Didn’t get to get a picture sadly. Also in attendance was a Sierra Cosworth and a Kaiser Henry J. The rest of the show was basically just old GMs and Fords. Weird to see a Diablo at a show like that.

I don’t like black. I do like VTs. Wish it was a roadster.
Sounds very out of place. Probably lifted the whole show a bit though ;)
